UPDATE...
As some of you may know, 3 years ago the LMSS ran into some difficulties with the
University and the University Guild due to an event that the LMSS previously held. However,
this event has now been discontinued and has been replaced with a new event, which
proves to be bigger and better than ever… ‘THE GRAND ROUND’. The Grand Round is held
in the O2 Academy and we can’t wait for you to find out what mysteries it holds, all we can
say is Don’t Be Shy!
As a result of the difficulties the LMSS had with the University, we are no longer associated
with the University or the Guild. HOWEVER, the LMSS now has a new home in the LMI
(Liverpool Medical Institute), situated just off campus, which is one of the oldest medical
institutions in the world. The LMSS is now also a registered charity, which enables us to
support the local community more than ever before. This year we will be supporting Claire
House Hospice, a local children’s hospice and Heartbeat, a leading North West charity in
cardiac rehabilitation.
We are proud to announce that over the last 3 years we have raised approximately £80,000
for charity! This is a clear demonstration of the way in which the LMSS is constantly
changing and developing. The LMSS continues to provide both academic and extra-
curricular opportunities for its members. We hold regular peer-peer teaching, facilitate a
fantastic mentor-mentee system and revision weekends held by doctors in local hospitals.
We are (of course) well aware that we need to be able to let our hair down once in a while,
so the LMSS provides loads of extra-curricular activities for our members to get involved in.
These include sports, drama, music and charity events. Thanks to all of these, we pride
ourselves on being the most active medical students’ society in the country! We are
extremely proud of the position we now find ourselves in and the fact that we are able to
offer more to our members as a result of our new home with the LMI and our charity status.
So make sure you get yourselves down to the LMSS Fresher’s fair, to buy your membership,
meet the committee and find out more about what we do! We can’t wait to meet you all and
get you involved in being part of the fantastic society that is the LMSS.
