ielo Vista is off to a busy year with our schedule of 27 classes visiting the library with the lower grades one week and the higher grades the next. All our students started off the year by being reminded of the library’s layout and our procedures and routines. We revisited terms like circulation desk, book drop, call numbers, fiction, reference, easy books, and nonfiction including biographies. It will be much easier this year to find materials as we have new colorful signage for the easy, fiction, and nonfiction sections.

Just after librarian orientation, grades 3-5 were shown our Bluebonnet Books display with available reading logs and synopses of the 20 books nominated for the Bluebonnet prize. Students were encouraged to read at least 5 of the 20 books to be able to vote in January and to be invited to attend our Bluebonnet breakfast. The students enthusiastically watched the trailers for the books and noted several titles they were planning to check out to read. One boy said that popcorn would have made it even better!
