On Wednesday, individual Irvin students became famous for reading, as they posed for their own “READ” poster, just as their teachers did, too.
On Thursday, Mr. Andrews’ and Mrs. Quintero’s Food Science classes went head to head, as they were the famous ones on Thursday, continuing their tradition of making cakes of famous books! Judges’ favorite cake was Alice in Wonderland and Ten Little Ladybugs. It was too difficult to determine which class made the best cakes, so it was deemed a tie! Both teachers’ classes did an excellent job, and they received a plate of baklava, along with a certificate.
All activities led up to Friday’s big event, with everyone reading for 30 minutes. The class that read the most pages during this time received a pizza party in the library on November 10th. Congratulations went to Mr. Maldonado’s 1st period class for reading over 250 pages! Not only did our students turn out to be famous for reading, a couple of our organizations were famous for reading at other campuses! The Irvin Rocket National Honor Society and the Book Club launched over to the Lee Elementary Lions and the Crosby Elementary Cougars to read to future Rockets. Finally, our famous principal, MaryAnna Giba, was a guest reader at Dowell Elementary, where she read “Skippyjon Jones”. Fun was had by all!
