CALICO CATS by Meredith Dash. (Grades 1-3) Dive into this clearly written informational text by Meredith Dash and learn about the trait that defines a Calico Cat. Discover why Calico’s are found in different breeds of Cats. The stunning pictures, fun facts, text features, and interest level are reasons for adding this title to your collection of furry felines. On a scale of 1 – 5 stars, I rate the book 4 stars. Recommendation by Linda Gomez
CARS by Julie Murray. (K-3) Cars, by Julie Murray is a suitable non-fiction text for beginning readers—especially children who have an interest in cars. Readers are introduced to the purpose and basics of a vehicle.Murray also gives her young audience insight into a few different types of cars. For example, hybrid, electric, and smart cars. On a scale of 1 – 5 stars, I rate the book three stars for its simplicity. Recommended by Linda Gomez
COLUMBUS DAY by Meredith Dash. (K-3) Columbus Day is one book in the series, National Holidays, which gives young readers information about specific holidays in America. In addition, the simple content in this book and the text-to-picture support offers young students access to biographical information that is reader-level appropriate. The glossary, index, bold words and other text features provide instructional support to teachers who choose to use this resource in their classrooms.On a scale of 1 – 5 stars, I rate the book 4 stars. CRANES by Charles Lennie. Charles Lennie does another fantastic job shedding light on a topic that is of high interest to young male readers. Like the other titles in the book series, Construction Machines, Cranes contains large print and easy-to-read text. High-interest readers and teachers will be fascinated with the information gathered about cranes. The various types of cranes and their spectacular photographs will keep the reader engrossed and pondering questions.This title should be kept on elementary library shelves for not only students, but teachers alike. On a scale of 1 – 5 stars, I rate the book 5 stars for looking beyond the standard idea of cranes. Highly recommended by Linda Gomez
