sharing my cat’s situation he said “you could
try Rick Simpson oil.”
Seriously…I went from never hearing the
name to hearing it over and over, and better
yet, this stranger offered me the solution to
make the RSO and try it out.
It was a mason jar in grain alcohol that needed
to be cooked down, my first exposure to the
oil.
Then I asked a friend with a medical card to
get me CBD oil so I could treat with both THC
and CBD.
Eventually, I connected to a local grower
through a friend, who was battling his own
lymphoma and generously helped me on my
journey to obtain a high CBD strain of
cannabis through his connections so I could
make my own high CBD oil.
He traded clones for the trim – and with the
knowledge I had gained and resources I now
had, I was able to treat Ferris with RSO
immediately – in conjunction with his chemo
treatments (4 sessions, 6 weeks apart).
I took the vet seriously that the chemo was
necessary and needed to be done immediately
to give him the best chance.
Although the affected organ was removed, the
cancer was in the blood vessels and believed
to still be everywhere microscopically.
Everything I have witnessed is speculation
but I believe beginning the chemo as soon as
was possible and feeding him RSO at the
same time (and continuing for 3 months
straight) prevented the cancer from taking
over again.
The chemo was a low dose that did not cause
visible negative side effects (outside of his
coat becoming very dull and rough and maybe
a bit more vomiting).
But then the oil made his coat all glossy and
youthful again.
He hates it, by the way, as most cats do. It was
causing me a ton of frustration to figure out
how to get him to swallow it.
Hiding in food was not effective and started
to make him suspicious in general.
Trying to mix in liquid in a syringe just made
it stick to the sides. I would wipe it on his
gums but then he run away spastically
smacking his lips and being miserable.
Finally, I discovered that taking some cheese
(sliced cheese is best) and zapping in the
microwave for about 5 seconds would melt it
enough to put the dot on oil in the middle then
quickly wrap up while it’s still soft to
completely enclose it.
I would prepare a bunch and store in fridge
then at feeding time, pin him down, tilt his
head about and lightly shove the cheese ball
into the side of his mouth till he’d open it and
get him to swallow.
It is the only way. It is for his own good,
painless, and ensures he is consuming it.
In the beginning he was the typically wobbly
guy, “stoned” and groggy…it took me a while
to figure out dose and he seemed very
sensitive. I only give him a tiny pinhead dab
at a time. Now, I don’t see those reactions but
he does seem to sleep very soundly all through
the night since I combined an Indica strain I
grew along with the high CBD strain for my
latest batch of oil.
So here we are, 14 months after I nearly lost
him on the ER table… 9 months past his
projected life expectancy… 1 month till his
13th birthday...when there once was a time I
was just hoping he’d make it to his 12th
birthday. I take it day by day. I am thankful
for every day I wake up next to him, and he is
there to greet me at the door after work. Was
it the chemo? The oil? His strong little body
in general? The fact he is a cat and not a dog
and what this cancer does to dogs does not
apply to cats? I have no idea. All I know is he
is still here and I DO believe RSO attributed
to it. His white blood cells remain high, but I
am not surprised by that. He is most likely
keeping it in check and having to fight it off,
so I continue to give him the oil off and on,
once a day as preventative. It gives me hope
and makes me feel more in control like I am
able to do something.
They told me he has 6 months to live… but
then I discovered RSO.
