ATHLETICS NEWS Eagles Athletics Announces New Head Coaches Matthew Barreiro E agles Athletics introduces three new head coaches to the coaching staff. “The coaches added to the staff bring a Christ-centred approach to developing Eagles Athletes as athletes, students and community leaders. We anticipate a year of incredible growth and success,” notes GRACE SCOTT, Director of Athletics. MATTHEW BARREIRO is the new Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball team for the 2014-15 season. Matthew is passionate about the game of basketball and about his faith. He was an all-state point guard in high school and played for both Spokane Community College and Arizona Christian University. Barreiro has ten years of coaching experience running basketball camps through NBC Camps and has four years of experience coaching at the college level. In addition to his coaching, Barreiro will be teaching a number of our Physical Education courses. After a very successful college career as a player for Concordia University College of Alberta, DALLAS WRIGHT PHIL DIXON, our new Men’s Volleyball Head Coach, comes to King’s with an extensive background in coaching. He has been involved with coaching volleyball for almost twenty years, ranging from Jr. High to Drill Coach at Team Canada’s Junior Men’s Tryout Camps. After a long and successful career in engineering, Phil felt God’s calling on his life to a career in coaching and building into the lives of young men. Phil will also be working in the Development department at King’s in the area of fundraising and community relations.  ing’s Alumna (’14) and former Eagles Athlete ALYSSA DOWNING has returned for the 2014-2015 season as assistant coach for Women’s Volleyball. Playing Eagles Volleyball for the last five years prepared Downing to move to the coaching role. Downing’s position is supported by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Female Apprentice Coach Program, which provides grants for professional development for young female coaches.  16 /// The King’s Connection /// Fall 2014 Phil Dixon will be taking over the Head Coach position for the Women’s Basketball team. As an athlete, Dallas has experience playing at the Canadian College Athletics Association (CCAA) National Championship in his final year as team captain. Wright brings a Christ-centered approach to the fundamentals of hard work, integrity, sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and communication that are essential for success on a team and in life.
