athletics news Athletics News By Grace Scott, Director of Athletics A s the 2012-2013 Eagles Athletics season kicks off, King’s is pleased to introduce some new additions to our staff. Katie Wallbaum (‘12) is back on campus as the Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach under the mentorship of Head Coach Tiffany Pino. Katie is one of 12 recipients of the CCAA Female Apprentice Program in which the women’s soccer program will receive a scholarship in the amount of $4,000. Katie was the goalkeeper on the Eagles Soccer team from 2007-2012 in which she was one of the team’s captains for four years and was also selected to the ACAC All-Conference team (2010-11). She was King’s Female Athlete of the Year (2009-10). Chad Pidhaichuk is the Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball team for the 2012-2013 season. A leader by example and former Associate Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team at King’s in 2011-12, Chad is excited to take on this new challenge. Chad played two years at the College of New Caledonia (now the University of Northern British Columbia) from 1997-1999 as the starting forward and team captain in his last year. A graduate of the University of Alberta in 2003, Chad received his Bachelor of Education and has taught in Drumheller, Prince George and is now currently teaching in Stony Plain. Having coached high school basketball for eleven years in Drumheller and Prince George, Chad was also involved in co-founding Badlands Basketball in Drumheller and was very successful in organizing and coaching camps, clinics, club teams and hosting spring and summer leagues. *Visit kingsu.ca/athletics for the latest Eagles update 22 /// The King’s Connection /// Fall 2012 Michelle Huber joins us as Athletics and Recreation Coordinator replacing Irene Tang who is currently playing basketball in Europe. Michelle graduated from Lakeland College in 2009 with a Professional Accounting Diploma, as well as, having played on the Lakeland Rustlers Basketball team. She then continued to play her last two years in the ACAC with the King’s Eagles, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2012. Throughout her playing career, Michelle was awarded Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player and a Leadership Award. Her abilities as a leader are very evident in both her work ethic and professionalism. As a summer intern, Michelle has already been preparing for the upcoming year and has proven that she will be a tremendous asset to our team. Michelle’s commitment to the Athletics program’s vision and her determination to pursue excellence make her a welcome addition to our staff. ?
