WHAT IS SALVATION?
Salvation is defined as being
delivered from danger, harm or
suffering. As Christians, or followers
of Christ, this word holds weight and
is important to us like none other.
Salvation reminds us that we are not
saved by our own hand, but by the
Hand of our Lord, Jesus. Only
through Him can we be truly saved.
WE CANNOT SAVE OURSELVES
We must first understand one thing:
it is impossible for us to save
ourselves. Romans 3:23, “For all have
sinned and fallen short of the Glory
of God”. How does this relate to
salvation you may ask? Sin is the
problem that each and every one of
us faces as we all have been tested
and marked by it. In the words of
King David, “Behold, I was shapen
in iniquity; and in sin did my mother
conceive me (Psalms 51:5)”. From
the time we enter this world, our
lives are plagued by sin time and
time again. In our impure state, we
cannot wash away these stains. In
Job 14:4, Job asks the question “Who
can bring what is pure from the
impure?” The answer is “no one”. As
a result of our sinful states, it is
impossible for us to cleanse
ourselves or others of sin.
In John 8:1-15, Jesus saves the life of
an adulterous woman. As He was
teaching, those who knew the law,
and the Pharisees, brought a woman
who was caught in adultery before
the group to be stoned to death.
They wanted to trap Jesus as a basis
to accuse Him. He simply told them
if they wanted to stone her, that any
person who was blameless of sin
should be the first to throw a stone at
her. As no one was blameless, they
all began to leave. The fact that they
left indicates that it is impossible for
those who themselves are bound up
in sin to accuse others.
SALVATION COMES FROM THE LORD
Jonah 2:9 says “Salvation is of the
Lord.” Salvation is simply a gift. It is
God’s gift to us, which cannot be
bargained for nor can it be bought. It
is freely given to us, although we
were woefully undeserving of it.
Salvation comes from the Lord who
in His wonderful mercy gives us the
protection we need. Therefore, our
salvation is a product of His love. As
one of the most well-known
passages of Scripture states “For
God so loved the world that He have
His only begotten Son that
whosoever believeth in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life”
