ELAINE WONG AND PEYTON TIGCHELAAR
Elaine Wong’ 88 attended CHS from Grade 7 – 12. She had such an incredible experience at CHS, and dreamt of having a daughter attend. During COVID, the family moved back from California to Vancouver so that Peyton could attend CHS and play competitive ice hockey.
Next year, Peyton will be studying Biological Sciences at the University of San Diego.
What relationships or moments have most defined your time here?
My relationships with teachers, friends, and counsellors have been the most influential during my time at CHS. The support in academics, extra help, mental well-being, and PSI work / applications is unmatched, and teachers help you feel seen— not just as a student, but as a person. I have been able to bond with my friends extremely well these past few years, especially during outdoor education camps. On a“ mini vacation”, we camped together, went boating together, enjoyed the wilderness, and made campfires. With the Ivy Compass program offering these opportunities, we are able to grow friendships in unique places. I have also been lucky enough to go on three major trips through CHS: France and Spain, California, and Ontario and Quebec. These trips have allowed me to immerse myself in new cultures, places, and history with my peers, allowing us to not only learn but also create lasting friendships and memories. – Peyton
When you think back on your CHS experience, what values or lessons have stayed with you?
I was very shy when I was young, but my time at CHS allowed me to develop my confi dence and try new things in a safe and supportive environment. Along with that, I learned so many practical life skills, including prioritization, time management, teamsmanship, and leadership, all while understanding the importance of empathy, respect, integrity, and compassion. These life skills and traits have carried me through my life, both personally and professionally. – Elaine
