STUDENT PERSPECTIVES— CONTEMPORARY INDIGENOUS STUDIES 12
Positionality
“ The Contemporary Indigenous Studies course has reshaped my ability to understand my positionality in this world: I have a better understanding of my ethical responsibility to the process of reconciliation. Instead of relying on rhetoric to persuade others to discover their moral obligations to Indigenous Peoples, I am able to use specifi c evidence and clear lines of reasoning to convince others.” – Maggie, Grade 12
Awareness
“ What I’ ve learned this year has encouraged me to be more aware of the perspectives, histories, and experiences that are often overlooked. It has shown me the importance of listening to Indigenous voices, being respectful of the land, and speaking up when I hear misinformation or stigma. Moving forward, I hope to continue learning and use that knowledge to contribute to a more inclusive and informed community.” – Emma, Grade 11
