COMMUNITY that Builds Confidence

At Crofton House School, every student is empowered to chart their own course, surrounded by a supportive community of teachers, peers, and alumnae. As part of the School’ s commitment to responsibility and to widening opportunities for students to engage as active citizens, each student is encouraged to discover and pursue their passions— whether in the arts, sciences, athletics, or community engagement— while developing their unique strengths. Learn more about Lauren, one of our 2025 graduates, her journey in the Senior School, and how financial assistance supports students like Lauren to explore the many possibilities of a CHS education.
OPENING DOORS AND EXPLORING POSSIBILITIES
As a new student in Grade 8, Lauren aspired to be a doctor; she loved playing sports, and she didn’ t love math or English. A Class of 2025 graduate, Lauren plans to major in accounting at UBC’ s Sauder School of Business, and has founded the basketball non-profit Together We Ball— both of which were inspired by her experiences at Crofton House School.
After her very first math class at CHS, Mr Ng, Teacher, Mathematics, Senior School, sat down with Lauren, reassuring her that math at CHS wouldn’ t just be about numbers and formulas; it would be engaging, collaborative and fun. True to that promise, the learning environment and engaging teaching methods transformed her experience with math, turning it into one of her favourite subjects by graduation.
Similarly, the patience and dedication of Ms Duteau, Teacher, English, Senior School, played a crucial role in helping Lauren build confidence and thrive academically.“ Now I prefer English as a subject, which I would have never imagined saying before CHS,” Lauren said.
“ What makes Crofton House special is the teachers. They genuinely want to help students, and they’ ll support you to get where you want to be.”
The CHS Work Experience Program solidified her interest in pursuing a career in accounting after graduation. After her Grade 11 placement with Neptune Terminals’ accounting department, Lauren continued in a summer position and has stayed in touch with her employer ever since. Now, with connections in the field and real-world experience on her resume, she is a step ahead when the job hunt officially begins.
“ The Crofton House community gives you exposure to opportunities that not everyone would have, which I’ m grateful for,” she said.“ I got a job doing something that I actually want to do.”
Throughout Senior School, Lauren has consistently brought her passion for sport to campus through her cocurricular activities. She has been a pivotal member of the Crofton Falcons basketball program and, as the Fitness Club Captain in both Grade 11 and 12, a wellness advocate.“ I strongly believe that sports and fitness are important to success in the classroom,” she said.“ I know from experience, you need to have a good balance. It can’ t all be academics.”
In her Captain’ s role, Lauren created and led students through weekly workouts, welcoming a handful of the 40 or so registered students into the Senior School Fitness Centre each week.“ I wanted to figure out a way to increase their confidence and create a space where students can do physical activity and be supported and encouraged,” she said.“ I even encouraged people to try out for various Falcons teams, and they made it!”
Playing on the school basketball team, and fulfilling her role as team captain( Grade 10-12), she was often inspired by Mr Cohee, Director, Admissions and varsity assistant coach, among many amazing Falcons’ coaches.“ Mr Cohee has been so supportive, not just
