WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR TIME AT CHS ?
Crofton House Junior School was once very limited in the opportunities for competition . With the steady growth in Lower Mainland schools in the Independent Schools Elementary Association ( ISEA ), that has changed and we now have a robust cocurricular program for inter-school competition .
It is impossible to speak of the growth in both Junior and Senior School Athletics programs without mentioning Nancy Moore , who worked tirelessly for inclusion in Lower Mainland leagues for the Senior School and who coordinated leagues for our Junior School athletes . Her contributions to both Physical Education programs and Athletics simply cannot be overstated . The two of us worked together for 25 years ; she was also instrumental in developing my career .
One of my goals in teaching young girls was to develop basic fundamental movement skills and expose them to a wide variety of activities , games and sports . I believe that competency in many areas is a better foundation for lifelong appreciation and confidence than excellence in one area .
WHAT WAS SOMETHING YOU FELT WAS UNIQUE TO CHS DURING YOUR TIME HERE ?
My hope is that most students leave the Junior School with basic athletic competencies and the confidence to continue their physical development . I have loved following their athletic careers as they progressed through the Senior School , and have appreciated the many visits from students as they came back to share their progress and successes with me . It is rewarding to watch them grow up and love sports and fitness like I do .
As a parent myself , I witnessed first-hand the positive impact that our community has on students . My daughters ( class of 2006 and 2013 ) loved and thrived during their time here and continue to carry with them the lessons ( and love for sport !) that they first learned on our campus .
WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU WILL MISS ABOUT CHS ?
I will miss Friday treats and social gatherings at break in the staff room .
I will also miss the patience with tech support from my colleagues in the department and beyond , who were endlessly gracious with my questions and inept use of devices . This was especially evident when the transition to Zoom and online learning was less than smooth for me .
I will miss the camaraderie of the PHE team , who shared my vision of supporting the development of healthy , active young girls , and who contributed to a work environment that was collegial and fun .
I will miss all the staff and students who kept me young , at heart anyways ! How am I ever going to know the new hip songs , restaurants , lingo — or if my outfit is outdated !
Thank you , CHS .
