CELEBRATING Uniqueness

NEURODIVERSITY : CELEBRATING UNIQUE WAYS OF LEARNING
Crofton House School ’ s warm , supportive environment is the pivotal base for students to explore their courage , creativity and citizenship . Dedicated teachers and staff support students and their ways of learning , processing and expressing themselves — recognizing individual learning styles to help each individual thrive academically .
This year , that commitment has continued across all grades through various neurodiversity learning opportunities led by the Student Well-Being Coordinators as part of the ongoing focus on social and emotional learning ( SEL ) across campus . “ As a teaching community , we share knowledge about our experiences , and we ’ ve been increasingly focused on meeting our students where they are and understanding how to support the variety of learning profiles of the students we teach ,” Ms Eady , Coordinator , Student Well-Being & SEL , Junior School , said .

Neurodiversity is the perspective that all brains are different and that differences should be better understood and accepted . This concept is at the centre of the approach to neurodiversity inclusion that is being integrated into learning for staff , students and parents — thanks to a collaborative partnership between CHS and Rae Morris , Director of Rae Morris Counselling Group , a neurodiversity- and identityaffirming counselling practice . Rae and the other counsellors on the team work alongside mostly neurodivergent youth and adults in their practice , many with suspected or confirmed diagnoses of autism , attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ( ADHD ) and / or giftedness .
Having this integrated approach to neurodiversity inclusion helps support our commitment to belonging as articulated in our strategic plan , Thriving in Possibility — creating an
environment where everyone feels a sense of connection and personal identity and is able to actively participate .
