She Had a Dream
Deep hope of rediscovering love
Laura couldn´t bear to feel so lonely, especially after 15 years of marriage. She had become a widow at the age of 35. From then on, she had found it pleasant to go to the public library and read romantic stories that could help her to fill the void left by her husband´s death. She had a dream: to fall in love again. She was determined to pursue it. That meant that she would have to stop reading romantic stories and make her dream come true – and so she did.
She decided to go for a walk on a warm sunny afternoon. She was strolling about when, suddenly, a big storm blew up. The gentle drops turned into a downpour in no time. Rushing back to her house, she made out a man waving to her. His face looked familiar … Yes, they had run into each other a couple of times in the neighbourhood but they had exchanged nothing but polite greetings. What was his name? Did he know hers? He offered her his umbrella and accompanied her up to the threshold of her house. He struck her as a man of great charm and she was delighted. She had a dream and now it seemed to have come true. “This only happens in novels”, she thought. Novels like the ones she used to read in the library.
After a brief conversation on the threshold of her house, they made a date. A secluded café off the beaten track – Wednesday 8th – 7 p.m. Those words would be etched on her memory for ever. She had a dream and it was becoming so real. She could even almost touch it. Her deep hope of rediscovering love was now fulfilled. She had a dream. She wouldn´t be lonely any more. They said goodbye. She stared at him until he turned the corner - to go to his girlfriend house
