I have a dream
I guess I´m not overgeneralizing if I say we all have dreams in our lives. Personally, I have many. Right now an unpleasant fact brings me to one of them in particular. Let me tell you about it.
Last Friday, as always, I travelled back to Godeken. As the van was going past the central square, I saw new playground equipment for children, some fitness equipment and a carousel, all free for the community. I felt more than a little proud of the mayor, Jorge Roselle, since he is always trying to beautify our town. But the rest of the news isn´t that brilliant.
The following morning, I went to the baker’s, where I found a bunch of grumbling residents. I said to myself, “What is it now?” And I asked what was happening. They told me that the brand new equipment had been vandalized. On the way back home, I decided to go to the square and check whether it was true - you know, sometimes everything is a lie in towns. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. When I arrived, I couldn´t believe my eyes. I can´t explain the sadness that overcame me when I saw the ruins of the local authorities’ efforts.
First, I saw red and then tears filled my eyes. Then, I was full of rage again. Why don´t people care about anything? Why did they destroy the equipment? I can´t see the fun. New things are brought to my town: benches, posters, monuments, flags. And everything is damaged or wrecked overnight. I hate it when the effort authorities make to buy things is not appreciated.
There are many towns that are dirty and neglected because the local council spends the money on “more important things”. But WE ARE PRIVILEGED IN GODEKEN. We have a mayor who listens to the residents and who makes every effort to please all of us. I can´t believe that some people should respond viciously. I have a dream that people will some day learn to value things around them. I have a dream that people will some day learn to value hard work. I have a dream that people will some day learn how to take care of things. I have a dream that people will some day be different. I hope that some day my dream will come true.
