Richard Atstupenas has worked with MKS2 since January 2020 . Currently he works in the role of Cyber Security Engineer with the IT Operations and Services department .
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING IN THE IT INDUSTRY ?
When I first began working in IT , I was told by my employer that I needed a degree to continue . I enjoyed the field so much that I was willing to endure whatever obstacles were necessary . Four years later , I came out with a degree in Management Information Systems .
I ’ ve worked in the IT field for over 20 years now and I love that it is never stagnant . There is always something new to take on and I ’ ve never felt so good with an organization as I have so far with MKS2 .
WHAT IS ONE ITEM ON YOUR BUCKET LIST ?
That ’ s hard to say . My bucket list has been pretty much filled to this point in time .
I would like to visit my mother ’ s grave in California because I haven ’ t yet had that opportunity . The coronavirus is throwing me off of a lot of plans . I ’ d also like to visit Lithuania in Europe because it ’ s a unique part of my nationality .
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR LIFE MANTRA ?
I love being part of a team . From being a supervisor in the military to working with MKS2 , I ’ ve learned that you ’ re only as strong as your weakest link and you always want your team to be as strong as possible . A positive leader keeps everyone in his team motivated to be the best that they can be .

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING IN THE IT INDUSTRY ?
The atmosphere challenges me to think . It ’ s never boring in IT . I enjoy working with different people from different cultures , cities , and countries . I love that there ’ s always an opportunity for learning and that I learn something new every day . It can be challenging at times and stressful , but it ’ s very rewarding helping people resolve their issues .
WHAT IS ONE ITEM ON YOUR BUCKET LIST ?
I was thinking about an African safari tour , but I don ’ t know if I want to get that close to those animals . I still want to go to Paris , France . It ’ s always been a dream of mine to see the Eiffel Tower . I ’ d also love to go on an Alaskan cruise and see the glaciers and whales up close .
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR LIFE MANTRA ?

In the latter part of my career , when I was 49 , I decided to go back to school for my bachelor ’ s degree . There were a few times I didn ’ t think I was going to make it because I was still working full time . A few times , I almost called it quits , but I hung in there . With a lot of prayer and talking with my counselor , I finally graduated with a degree in Management Information Systems .
Not only has my degree taught me how to be more analytical and detail-oriented , it ’ s opened the door for me to get certified as a network analyst , which is one of the next avenues I ’ d like to explore .
