ENVIRONMENT INGENIEUR AWARD WINNING GREEN TOWNSHIP By Sam CS Tan, Group Managing Director, Ken Holdings Berhad New township called Ken Rimba aims to set a benchmark in the industry that affordable, well designed homes built to exacting Green standards are achievable without big price tags attached. Taking advantage of natural resources - water, sunlight and wind - to minimize carbon emissions, it has won several awards for being a “green township”. P eople often relate the idea of green buildings to the words “Expensive”, “High Cost”, “a gimmick from developers to increase the selling price” etc. Refuting all these, the KEN Rimba project has proven that Green homes are not necessarily expensive. This is the concept for truly green designed homes in a communityminded Green Township. KEN Rimba is an example that the “Green” ideal need not be confined to the purview of luxury construction alone, but can indeed be incorporated into the so called staple housing market.
