The 2017 Deadly Funny Winner is.....

"Entering stand-up competition was on my bucket list. I didn’t expect to win"

Ghenoa Gela

Koedal (Crocodile) and Waumer (Frigate Bird) woman Ghenoa Gela is a strong Torres Strait Islander from Rockhampton Central Queensland who is no stranger to the stage and spotlight. A Torres Strait Islander, Hip Hop and Indigenous Contemporary dancer, and was host for the Deadly Vibes Australia’s television show “Move it Mob Style”.

Ghenoa took out the title for the 2017 Deadly Funny national competition by sharing “one long story about this hilarious thing we saw in Mackay. When I was a young fella we went to this theatre to watch Welcome To Country and there was a bunch of young dancers and one young fella forgot to put his underwear on under his lap lap so when he was doing the shake a leg dance his bits were falling out. I re-enacted the shake a leg dance to the best of my ability,” she said.

“Entering a stand-up competition was on my bucket list. I didn’t expect to win,”

Expect to see more of Ghenoa in the arts. Hopefully she will pursue comedy further as she is a natural entertainer and storyteller.

“We’re always good for yarns us black fellas, always good for laughs.”
