The Indigenous Artist Magazine Issue 2 - May 2017 | 页面 25

He has now been practicing his artforms for 18 years, and now at the age of 47 years his artwork represents “the fire in my belly and the voice my disenfranchised clan were prevented from speaking.” Getting his inspiration from living within the colony and having to conform to being “Australia” with a racist doctrine.

Black Douglas career milestones includes being a finalist in numerous competitions such as the Cossack Art Awards in Karratha WA, Mossman Art Prize in Sydney, Archibald Prize, Parliament of NSW Aboriginal Art Prize and many more.

A regular exhibitionist with solo exhibitions at galleries such as the Art Artrium in Bondi Junction, Boomali in Leichhardt, Utrecht in Netherlands, Art One in Melbourne, just to name a few. But Black Douglas says that his most important exhibition thus far is just around the corner! The Third National Indigenous Triennial – “Defying the Empire” opens 26th May 2017 at the National Gallery of Australia.

“I hope that within my lifetime, blackfulla’s will stand alone within the ever-manipulating non-Indigenous Art Establishment and that the newly recruited Black curators will actually find uninhibited strength” Black Douglas says.

You can pick up one of Black Douglas’s artwork anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000 from his website www.blackdouglas.com.au , the www.aboriginalartdirectory.com and the www.artatrium.com.au .
