many developers
to let their characters and worlds
be part of the SIK universe is an interesting read,
and is part of this feature’s accompanying interview.
In the words of Paul Hamilton, the man behind One Legged
Seagull, Super Indie Karts features crossovers with “indie games
you know and love, and some you don’t yet know you love!”
Additionally, the soundtrack will remind players of their favorite Super Nintendo games. It was created by Shannon Mason,
better known as Pongball (shannonaudio.com), who has done
instrumental pieces for a number of indie titles, such as Sapphire Skies and Bloom Defender.
Most seasoned racers know that one of the most important
aspects of any kart racer is the weapon pickups found scattered
around each course. What kind of weapons will the indie racers
featured in SIK have? According to what’s known so far, they can
slip up an opponent with a Melted Ice Cream, knock them for a
loop with a Watermelon Projectile or an Exploding Pineapple,
or even ruin their day entirely with a Loconut - a heat-seeking
locomotive coconut. Of course, there are more secret weapons
yet to be revealed as well.
Other features expected to be included at launch include split-screen
battle modes, unlockable achievements, and time trials. The driving as-
pect
will include drift
boosts and analog steering, and
as the game progresses, additional characters and
tracks can be unlocked. There are currently more than twenty
characters in all, and thirty tracks are planned to be ready by
launch. Boost pads, power-ups, and ramps will accelerate the
action, while shortcuts and hazards will make each trip around
the track more exciting.
Each race in SIK has three star rankings, and in order to earn all
three stars, players will need to not only finish in first place, but
also collect full sets of Gold Rings and Golden Shrooms hidden
along the way. In order to find these objects on the track, players will need to discover alternate routes and shortcuts that
are often cleverly hidden in plain sight. Doing so will likely take
more than the initial few laps around each course.
Super Indie Karts is currently in Early Access on Steam for Windows and Mac gamers. It will also be released for the OUYA,
and is expected to be priced at $9.99 USD once fully completed
and available later this year.
