WE ARE BACK !
The return of international family day , monthly lunches and other events
After 18 months of social distancing and events not taking place , the time finally came to reunite our international families around sharing .
On September 4th , “ International Family Day ” was held for the first time in 2 years . A convivial event , where young and old alike , discovered the food and culture of more than 20 different nations belonging to Imjin Barracks . From traditional Nepalese dances ( Khukuri knife display ) to a caravan serving the famous Canadian poutine , each country was at its best to represent its own culture . Since then , each month has had its share of surprises . The return of international lunches and coffee mornings have allowed ASC members to enjoy these unique moments . In October , the UK lunch took place , with a traditional meal of chicken pie and mashed potato , followed by a presentation of the places to visit in the Cotswold . Each participant left with a local bottle of cider .
In November , the US lunch followed a Thanksgiving theme and a raffle was held to win a hamper of American treats . All the money raised was donated to the CCP Hamper Scamper .
This year the Welfare Office Team kindly organised a successful children ’ s Christmas party with a Santa ’ s grotto , music and games … and mince pies , mulled wine and a hog roast for the big children as well !
In order to get ready for Christmas , a group of ladies experienced the amazing soap making workshop and came back home with original presents for family and friends . Two Christmas wreath making workshops were also held at the Imjin Community Centre .
On Sunday 21st November , the Innsworth Station Community Centre , hosted the Innsworth Independent Businesses Christmas Fair . The event saw 16 local businesses , 7 of which are owned by military spouses and personnel , showcase their amazing products . There was everything from beauty products , to books , badges , artwork and wooden spoons ! The fair was a great success and it was fantastic to see so many of the local community coming to support small businesses . Thank you to Michelle and Natalie for organising and the Welfare Team for the use of the centre .
If you own a business , want to start one up , then please come along to the Innsworth Station Coworking Hub from 9 – 11am on the 1st Thursday of every month at the Innsworth Station Community Centre . It is a great place to network , collaborate and meet fellow business owners .
Military Wives Choir By Sarah Bridge
At long last we were able to sing at a private performance at the beginning of October , to say we enjoyed it would be an understatement ! We tested one of our new songs on the audience and it seemed to go down well .
A handful of our committee travelled to Bristol for the Annual General Meeting , along with meeting other Choir Committee members they had the opportunity to share the many challenges choirs are currently experiencing and ( hopefully ) share solutions . Of course , there was also a chance to have a sing and eat cake .
At the beginning of November some of our choir members helped with the local poppy appeal and at the end of November we sang with the Cotswold Male Voice Choir at the beautiful St . Matthews Church in Cheltenham . A thoroughly enjoyable experience .
From all in the choir we hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year ! And we look forward to seeing you at upcoming events in 2022 !
If you should have any questions or you would like to join our choir , please email innsworth @ militarywiveschoirs . org or message us on our Facebook page . We look forward to meeting you .
