CAMBRIAN PATROL
Exercise Cambrian Patrol is carried out across the arduous landscape of South Wales in October . Teams of 8 having 48 hours to patrol 70kms , carrying up to 35kg each and conducting military tasks throughout . This year , the event started in the Black Mountains before heading onto Sennybridge training area . The team from Gurkha ARRC Support Battalion was managed by SSgt Tilak Pun and Capt Basanta Rai and led by Lt Connor Norris .
For the duration of the exercise the team endured the unpredictable Welsh weather , along with fatigue from carrying weight for a prolonged period with little to no sleep . The military tasks the team had to conduct included a river crossing , reconnaissance of an enemy position , artillery targeting and a section attack lane . Every individual was tested both mentally and physically throughout the patrol , but sticking together as a team , everyone pulled through .
All members felt incredibly proud to complete the event and were all very much looking forward to well-earned rest and a decent night ’ s sleep !
This year the Gurkha ARRC Support Battalion was awarded SILVER for
their skills , professionalism , and efforts on the Patrol . A fantastic result and one to be proud of . Congratulations to all involved !
TRAIL WALKER
This year , Trail Walker returned to the South Downs , England , where participants would complete a 100km route in teams of 4 within 30 hours . The event is run in aid of the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam , in order to provide support and aid to communities in Nepal . The Gurkha ARRC Support Battalion entered two teams into the event this year , and both teams were put through their paces in the build-up to the event . LCpl Prabesh Rai and Sgt Arjun Tamang delivered an arduous training programme for both teams to complete . None of the participants had run these distances prior to this training , and all were pushed to the limit .
The event was conducted on the 25th of September , in which Team ‘ A ’ completed the event in 13 hours and 8 minutes , and Team ‘ B ’ completed it in 17 hours and 36 minutes . The teams also raised over £ 600 .
Many Congratulations to all participants and to Sgt Arjun Tamang who managed both teams .
