104 THEATRE SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE ROUND UP

2024 has had a busy start for the Brigade , forming the core and command element of the Theatre Enabling Group ( TEG ), we have supported the over 16,000 British Army personnel deployed on Ex STEADFAST DEFENDER 24 . With formations deploying to Europe across a variety of methods ( ship , plane , train and vehicle ) the TEG has been responsible for receiving , sustaining and returning all exercising formations to the UK . Providing assurance to commanders , not only that their personnel will arrive at the rally points but as formed units with the equipment and materiel to complete their tasks . As the largest British Army exercise deployment in recent times , it has provided an opportunity for the TEG to deliver at scale for an extended period . With 17RLC supporting the in and outload of 7LBCT , ARRC and other elements for the NATO NRF deployEx from Germany and Poland . 29RLC supporting the in and outload of 12ABCT and the KRH battlegroup and delivering a US Cavalry Division in partnership with 16 Sustainment Brigade . And 9Bn REME and 9RLC sustaining the whole exercise in partnership with 101 OSB . With such a large commitment to Ex STEADFAST DEFENDER 24 it is easy to lose sight of all else , below are but a handful of the great work across the Brigade :
Ex DARDANELLES WOLF . Our battlefield study to Turkey / Gallipoli in Jan24 was a huge success with the team examining the campaign ’ s , specifically the complexity of the amphibious landings and establishment of a bridgehead against a near peer . Apt as the Brigade re-examines our tactics considering the lessons learned from Ukraine and strive to retain our ability to project vehicles and military equipment onto an austere shore .
Ex COLD WOLF . Despite last year ’ s funding restrictions for adventurous training , a team of six successfully completed the Winter Mountain Foundation course in Jan24 with participants tackling both the challenging Scottish weather and a 1 Star instructor , the Brigade Comdr .
Knights Week . The Brigade HQ and 29 RLC hosting our US partners 16 Sust Brigade in South Cerney , the Brigade HQ and 29RLC put them through their paces with a high intensity PT session . Here we sowed the seeds for future interoperability and shared activity . With 29RLC finalising their plans to receive 2x US ROROs in support of 16 Sust Brigade and 9RLC working with their counterparts to understand how the US deliver Convoy Support Centres . This relationship building at all levels has paid dividends on Ex STEADFAST DEFENDER .
Ex ARMY SUSTAINER , the annual Army catering competition , organised by 167 RLC , in Grantham was a huge success . 30 units were represented by their chefs – an amazing turnout given ongoing commitments for chefs . Some were in teams of three , others were individuals , and international teams included US , LTU , and Oman . We used it as an opportunity for concurrent activity , all organised by 165 RLC , by combining the 104 TSB festival of sport finale ( teams from 8 units took part in a round robin of soccer , volleyball , and rounders ). We also exploited the fine-dining culinary competitions to feed us at the annual UNIFIED WOLF awards lunch where soldiers across 10 categories were recognised for their achievements .
