WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN MOVING FROM THE AREA

When you move from the area on assignment / posting , leave the Service , or any other reason , there are certain things you must do for you and your family .
CHILD / CHILDREN ’ S SCHOOL
Once you know the move-out date from your house , you must inform your child / children ’ s school that they will be leaving the school and the date , as you are moving from the area . It is important to do this so that the school doesn ’ t report your child as truant when they don ’ t attend or return to school . This will help the school know the availability of school places for other families .
DE-REGISTER FROM DOCTORS / DENTISTS / HOSPITALS
Do ensure that you & your family inform their doctors ’ surgery , dental practice and ( if receiving hospital treatment ), the hospital department , that they are moving from the area and the date .

Richard Moore richard . moore114 @ mod . gov . uk
They will then de-register your family from the surgery , practice and department . This will ensure that there are places there for new families when they arrive .
REDIRECT YOUR MAIL
It ’ s important for you and your family that you have your mail re-directed to your new address when you move from your SFA / house . You will not then miss important letters / documents and will prevent your personal details being stolen or used fraudulently .
Royal Mail has a redirect service and mail can be directed to any UK or overseas address for a required period and for all family members , at a cost .
See their website for full information , application form and costs :

Previous occupant of SFA / house – their post
When you move into your new SFA / house , you may receive through the post system , correspondence ( i . e . letters , bills ) addressed to the previous occupant .
Please cross through the address and bar codes and write the following words on the envelope : ‘ NOT KNOWN / NO LONGER AT THIS ADDRESS , RETURN TO SENDER ’, and re-post through the post system .
Do not open the correspondence , as this is against the law .
Utility Bills
If the correspondence is from a Utility Company – gas , electricity , water , please take the envelope and contents to the Welfare Office . They will notify the company of the change of occupancy and forward the correspondence to the relevant DIO / Amey department for their action .
Moved to the area – registering with a doctors ’ surgery
When you move into the area , your spouse and family members must register with a Doctors ’ Surgery . A list of Surgeries nearest to the SFA area where you live is noted in SFA Area Information Booklet in the Welcome Pack .
To register with a Surgery you should telephone the Surgery , and the Reception staff will explain and assist with the registering process . Do check the Surgery ’ s website for further information .
If your spouse and family have a UK medical card , do take it to the Surgery when registering , and if registering a child / children , take their history of immunisations .
Your spouse and family will need to provide two forms of evidence to confirm their identities and address , these can be – passport , driving licence , National Insurance card , NHS card , recent bank statement , utility invoice , correspondence from a Government dept .
If you are having problems with registering with a Surgery , contact Sue Miles – PN Policy Support Officer for assistance , at email susan . miles893 @ mod . gov . uk
