Interesting name of your band, its got to have a meaning for you all, so can you tell us who came up with the name and how many names did you have before you settled on Wetwood Smokes?
We were all standing over a campfire in Big Sur. It was about the time our old band had just disbanded and the three of us (Josh, Steven, and Christian) decided we were going to go forth as a trio. We had been on the name search for about a week at this point.
As we’re standing around the fire, it started to rain. We’re all standing and staring silently into the flames as we had been for the past 10 minutes when Josh say’s “wet wood smokes” under his breath. He looked up hoping for any kind of approval. Steven smirked and said, “I like it”. Chrystian wasn’t sold so we added it to the note in Steven’s phone of all the twenty-something names we’d come up with thus far.
It wasn’t until a couple weeks later that Chrystian texted Steven and Josh saying, “I like Wet Wood Smokes”. It was decided. We decided to drop the space and make “wet wood” one word.
Who are the band members and who plays what?
Josh bowman (lead vocals, guitar) Steven Howard (guitar) Chrystian Cano (bass, background vocals) John Gee (drums). John is the newest member. We invited him on a little over 2 months ago.
Tell me how you all met and what made you decide to form a band?
Josh and Steven are brothers and have been playing together since they were kids. They met
Chrystian in high school and they were all in a band together before Wetwood. After the drummer of the former band left they found John via craigslist to play for them.
