"And then the man he steps right up to the microphone

And says at last just as the time bell rings

Goodnight, now it's time to go home

And he makes it fast with one more thing

We are the Sultans

We are the Sultans of Swing"

These are some of the lines from the end of the song

that came about after Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler was watching a jazz band playing in a virtually deserted pub, in Deptford South London. At the end of the night, one of the band members turned around and announced that they were the "Sultans of Swing."

Did you also know......The Lines in the song "Harry

doesnt mind if he doesnt make the scene" and "Check out guitar George, he knows all the chords" relate to

the musical duo, Harry Vanda and George Young, who were better known as two members of the Australian band "The Easybeats." who in the 1960's had great success with their song "Friday on my Mind."

When they broke up in the 70's it left them with consderable debt so they returned to the UK and worked as songwriters and musicians.

Together they helped to launch George's younger brothers band AC/DC, his younger brothers being Angus and Malcom.
