Akima Interns Get Valuable Work Experience

This summer , Akima placed five college interns in locations in Herndon and Suffolk , Virginia and in Colorado Springs , Colorado . These NANA shareholders shared their aspirations and expectations of their three-month paid internships .
Interns work hands-on with Akima employees for three months , as they learn about our businesses .
Alexia Kuutana Bankston
Alexia is pursuing a bachelor ’ s degree in accountancy at Northern Arizona University . This summer , she is interning with Akima ' s finance and accounting team . “ This position will allow me to gain hands-on experience that I otherwise would not obtain in an academic setting , while helping me determine a career path in the accounting field ,” said Alexia , whose hometown is Utqiaġvik , Alaska . “ During this internship with Akima , I am most excited for the opportunity of growth .”
Sibylle Anasiqaaq Copeland
Sibylle is one of two interns joining Akima ’ s marketing and communications team . She is studying communications at the University of Alaska Anchorage , in her hometown . “ Communications is as vital as it is vast and receiving the opportunity to apply myself to the many areas of the department will narrow the scope of my academic focus ,” said Sibylle . “ I ' m eager to utilize this internship so that I can tangibly measure my efforts in a real work environment .”
Mark Schuerch
Mark is pursuing an English degree with a minor in creative writing from Purdue University in West Lafayette , Indiana . Joining the marketing and communications team this summer , Mark hopes to “ meet new people , get some work experience , and explore how to make a career with my interests .” His hometown is Anchorage , Alaska .
Aly Iyagakluk Allison
Aly is a dual-enrolled student at Tidewater Community College in Norfolk , Virginia . She is a general studies major , simultaneously earning high school and college credit . Aly is interning with project coordination in Akima ’ s Suffolk , Virginia office . Born in Anchorage , Aly now lives in Portsmouth , Virginia . Her goals for this internship are to “ gain work experience and , hopefully , life experience in general .’
Syanne Sicvone Rashelle Jepson
Syanne is a senior at Minnesota State University Moorhead , majoring in criminal justice . Fergus Falls , Minnesota , is her hometown , and she now lives in Moorhead with her fiancé . Syanne is interning as a project manager at the facility solutions group ( FSC ) in Fort Carson , Colorado . She looks forward to the opportunity . “ I understand the privilege I have being a shareholder and how much this internship could mean to me and my future ,” she said . “ This also gives me a chance to learn a new job style , which I am excited about as well .”

Akima Company Awarded Contract to Support the U . S . Army

Akima announced that its subsidiary , Compass Point , is one of four companies awarded a contract by the U . S . Army to provide program support to the Cyber Capability Development Integration Directorate ( CDID ) at Fort Gordon , Georgia . The estimated value of the contract to all awardees is $ 201.8 million over five years if all options are exercised .

CDID is the U . S . Army ’ s force modernization proponent for cyberspace operations , signal communications and electromagnetic warfare . Compass Point will provide support for the entirety of CDID operations , including cyber battle lab , concepts and analysis , requirements integration , information advantage and program management .
As a result of the contract award , Compass Point is planning to grow its presence in Fort Gordon to support the range of expertise required to support CDID . This will include a focus on veterans with relevant experience .
