NANA Commercial Group Companies Take Action During COVID-19 Businesses in NANA’s commercial group quickly adapted to news of the outbreak, continuing to provide quality services and manage safe operations. Employees worked together to follow company plans and state and local mandates while finding innovative ways to care for clients and community. ENGINEERING Pogo Mine Awards NANA Construction Install Contract NANA Construction was recently awarded install contract work for Pogo Mine’s gravity screen expansion project, with a crew mobilized to site on April 16. The project is part of an overall program to increase production of the mill. The contract is NANA Construction ’s first mining-related work outside of Red Dog, which means NANA Construction has begun to branch out and build relationships with other Alaska mining organizations. The team has received positive feedback from the client, who has already added additional scope to the project. Congratulations, NANA Construction team, on expanding your work in the mining industry! • NANA shareholder Doug Schaeffer works for NANA Construction at Pogo Mine. Doug lives in Fairbanks and was requested by name to help support the gravity screen expansion project at Pogo Mine. FOOD AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT CONTINUE TO PROVIDE STUDENT MEALS For NANA Management Services (NMS) food and facilities management teams, statewide school closures meant they had to get creative to provide food services for their five Alaska school district clients. After working with each district to plan menus and packaging and distribution methods, NMS employees were able to start offering meals to students as early as March 16. After weeks of refining the process, NMS prepared more than 8,000 meals per day for Alaska students who were distance learning at home, with many school districts offering meals seven days a week. FROM DINE-IN TO DELIVERY NMS camp services at the Plaza Café in the BP tower in Anchorage had to pivot when most of the building occupants began working from home. Food Service Director Eric Quint is now delivering 450 meals per day from the café to BP and Teck employees who are staying in Anchoragearea hotels during their quarantine or R&R before going back to work. JOINT EFFORT PROPOSES DESIGN FOR HEALTHCARE SCREENING STATIONS Kuna Engineering partnered with NANA Construction on a design-build proposal to provide temporary, modular healthcare screening stations in anticipation of potential capacity issues for COVID-19 containment efforts. These modular stations were designed with an open layout to be transported on a flatbed trailer that can be pulled with a standard 3/4- or one-ton pickup or delivered by air via a C-130. All units were designed so multiple units can be assembled for larger or expandable facilities. EMPLOYEES STEP UP TO HELP WITH MASK SHORTAGE Kuna Engineering employees Sandi Velleca and Suzanne Taylor joined with their families to make colorful and functional masks to help fight the COVID-19 outbreak. Each mask contains a pocket for a replaceable filter for added safety. Sandi, Suzanne and their families have made more than 200 masks. • Red Dog Employees Do Their Part to Stop the Spread of COVID-19 in Featured Video Red Dog Operations implemented significant changes to its travel policies to protect employees and communities in the NANA region from COVID-19, including the temporary suspension of all outbound regional travel from the mine site. (For updated travel measures, see page 2.) NANA recognizes regionally based employees at Red Dog for their commitment to the travel measures, and we thank them for the selflessness they demonstrated to safeguard their loved ones and villages. To honor them, NANA developed a video that features Red Dog employees sharing their support of the travel restrictions for the benefit of their community Elders, children and others. • To view this video, visit NANA's Facebook page.
