NANA

College Internship Program

This year , our college internship program placed talented college shareholders into roles that align with their interests and fields of study . These internships offered more than just job placements ; they provided a platform for real-world work experience , networking opportunities and mentorship from top-tier professionals .
“ This internship has helped me gain countless skills and knowledge ,” Economic Development and Sustainability ( EDS ) Intern Shaedyn Barr said . “ From the start of my first day , I was exposed to meetings with the NANA board and senior management team . I got to witness how the NANA team handles business within our communities . I have learned more about grants and policies . I have also had the opportunity to learn the background behind some events and projects . Not only am I receiving this much exposure , but this department is helping me in the office and life . They are giving me advice for college , future career opportunities and so much more . They truly care for the success of others .”
To ensure our college interns can fully immerse themselves in these opportunities , NANA provides comprehensive support , including :
• Travel arrangements : Covering travel expenses from their home communities to the cities where they will be working .
• Housing : Providing comfortable accommodation close to their workplace .
• Transportation : Ensuring daily commutes to and from work are seamless .
• Daily meals : Covering meal expenses to remove any financial burden related to food .
• Competitive wages : Offering a competitive hourly wage to make the internship financially rewarding .
Our college interns have had an amazing summer of fun and professional development at NANA . These future leaders have been hard at work on some big projects , including :
• Creating an Iñupiaq keyboard .
• Drafting this edition of The Hunter .
• Working on projects around the state with our architecture and engineering firm , Kuna .
• Supporting our regional broadband infrastructure deployment project .
• Meeting with the Northwest Arctic Leadership Team ( NWALT ).
To celebrate their incredible efforts , we made sure they got to have some fun too ! They took a break from the office to participate in weekly workshops and fun activities . This included a breathtaking helicopter tour of Knik Glacier and an atikluk-making workshop where our staff taught the interns to sew their very own atikluks . We wrapped up the interns ’ stay at NANA with a delicious niqipiaq ( Iñupiaq food ) lunch prepared by our team .
