The
New Pioneer
Not so long ago in North America, just a hundred and fifty years or so ago,
most people routinely rose with the sun. There was no time for tired eyes
and lazy days, only time for work. There were few or no grocery stores to
provide food, no construction companies to build homes and no department
stores to sell luxuries. It was up to the family to provide everything they
needed. So all days were early. Some would hunt, some would tend to a
garden, some would feed the livestock, some would make furniture, or soap
or candles. Almost nothing in a household would have come from a store.
That was the life of the average pioneer, those who sought space and freedom
to roam, rather than “things.”
