History
Even if we didn’t grow it, we’re not shy about celebrating food.
While the tastes of the area can be found at all our festivals,
there are several parties focused on what’s on our plates and
in our glasses this summer. The Taste of Tecumseh is first out
of the gate this June, followed by the Amherstburg Ice Cream
Festival on Canada Day, Fork and Cork and the Amherstburg
Ribfest that same month, and the Windsor Ribfest in August.
And check out Uncorked in Lasalle. Yum!
We’re home to some of the oldest settlements in Canada and
proud of it. Almost every community in the county marks
Canada Day, our nation’s birthday, with some sort of
celebration, from parades to fireworks. We go a step further
with Military Heritage Days in late July, the Essex County
Steam and Gas Engine Show in August and various
Emancipation Day celebrations that same month.
Music
It’s only fitting that right across the river from Motown you’ll
find a number of festivals organized around musical
offerings. Bluesfest is back for its 22nd year this July, followed
by Island Unplugged on Pelee Island in August. And the
growing Kingsville Folk Music Festival boast headliner Buffy
Sainte-Marie this year in Lakeside Park. And don’t overlook
the McGregor Music Festival this month, now in its 27th year.

Sometimes, it’s hard to categorize a festival - several of our area’s offerings are in a class by
themselves. The Windsor-Essex Pride Fest in August has quickly become a community
favourite, while the Busker Fest is back, now in Walkerville, that same month. Nothing says the
dog days of summer like Woof-A-Roo. And there is a multitude of car shows, outdoor concerts,
street parties and more happening all summer long - sometimes planned long in advance and
sometimes just popping up like dandelions in spring. No matter what your taste or interest, it’s
clear - Windsor-Essex in summer is the place to party.
