Herb Gray Parkway After four years of construction, detours and traffic headaches, nor to mention a changed landscape on the edge of the city, the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway opened to traffic on June 28. It is expected that tens of thousands of local commuters will find their daily drive easier, faster and safer. International truck traffic will move more efficiently towards the Canada-U.S. border crossing, saving time and money for all concerned. At a cost of approximately $1.4 billion, the new highway is surrounded by grasslands, wetlands, prairie and hedgerows, all of which will dranatically reduce the noise of fast-flowing traffic. Pedestrian bridges and tunnels make it possible to walk or cycle across safely without encountering vehicle traffic.
