RARE MOTH FOUND IN WINDSOR SWEATER DAYS AT WINDSOR-ESSEX SCHOOLS A certain insect has been found for the first time in Canada - right here in Windsor-Essex. The Nallachius Americanus looks like a small moth, but the lacewing is extremely rare. Locally, the insect has not been seen in the area since a sighting in Detroit in 1944. The sighting was in July 2017 but documentation has finally been processed. Some area schools are turning down the heat a few days each month to save money. As part of an eco-initiative, GECDSB schools have turned down the heat by two or three degrees, turned off lights for lunch hours and participated in Earth Hour. Sweater Day is part of the six-month initiative, which is organized by the World Wildlife Foundation. Since 2010, over one million Canadians have participated. POINT PELEE EARLY BIRD PASSES Point Pelee’s early bird passes are on sale. Prices increase in Apri. An annual pass for a carload is $66.75. An adult annual pass is $29.40. For 2018, thanks to the government of Canada, admission to all Parks Canada locations - including Point Pelee - are free for youth under the age of 17. New at Point Pelee - the oTENTiks can be booked for overnight stays right in the park. 14 The HUB February 2018 COUNTY COUNCIL APPROVES ROUNDABOUTS Construction won’t begin until 2021, but two new roundabouts are coming to Essex County. The new roundabouts will be at County Roads 42 and 43, and at Manning Road and County Road 42. The first step of the Manning Road and 42 project is estimated to cost $36 million.
