Shipshewana Town News If September 23 marked the start of autumn, then October marks the start of the leaf raking season. Your cooperation with the street department’s leaf pickup program of raking your leaves to the curb is appreciated. Please do not mix tree limbs, garden waste or trash with your leaves, as those materials can damage the leaf vacuum equipment. The leaves end up at the Town compost area near the wastewater treatment plant. Early next spring the Northeastern Indiana Solid Waste District will bring a tub grinder to Shipshewana and grind the leaves. The end product is a very good compost/mulch that is available for free to residents that live in town. Also, thank you in advance for not burning your leaves. Leaf smoke is very bad for children with asthma and adults with respiratory problems. Halloween hours have been set. Trick or treating will be Monday, October 31 from 5:00 to 7:00. Please have your children wear costumes that do not interfere with their vision and remind them about safe practices to cross streets. The annual Fall Crafter’s Festival is set to start at 9:00 am to 6:00 p.m., September 29th and run through Saturday, October 1st. The event is planned for families and individuals looking for something truly unique and different from normal weekend routines. All types of demonstrations and entertainment will be provided. There will be events for all ages and tastes. Please plan to attend with your family and friends. The Shipshewana Police Department is currently working with Dave Mallinak of C&C Law Enforcement in by Sheryl Kelly creating a police calendar for the Shipshewana Community. The calendar will give businesses the opportunity to purchase advertisements that will be seen throughout the town and potentially the county. Proceeds from this calendar will go towards the Shipshewana Chaplain Program, RAD Kids Program, and the Jack Russell Police Dog Program. This will be a great opportunity for all involved to support programs that give back to the community and have the opportunity to get the name of their businesses out to the public. If you have an opportunity, please do take some time to enjoy the new Pumpkinvine Trail between Shipshewana and Middlebury this fall, too. There are many mature trees located along the path and the colors should be spectacular. 2nd Annual Men’s Retreat at New Life Fellowship Located at 2755 S.
