This year, the Lions Club has chosen Keith Roth as Citizen of the Year. Roth graduated from Westview High School in 1985 and then two years later started his long service to the Shipshewana Fire Department that included an 8 year term as Fire Chief from January, 1999 to December, 2006. Since then, Roth has helped with many community programs including helping with the youth baseball program, getting the new baseball diamonds put in, and has served as baseball coach for approximately six years. Roth was married to Gayle Rheinheimer in 1987 and they have had two children; Anthony, a junior at Huntington College; and Amber, a freshman at Westview. The SRMA announced recently that the Grand Marshal for the annual Mayfest parade is Kathy Miller (Wolfe). Every year, the SRMA chooses a Grand Marshal based on merits such as community service and service to the merchant association. When asked about her thoughts on being chosen as the Grand Marshal, Miller responded, “I’m very honored to be the Grand Marshal. I grew up in Shipshewana and have lived within 15 miles and have watched Mayfest evolve. I think it is a wonderful celebration of our community.” Cathy has recently become an entrepreneur and started a tour development and guide company named Cathy’s Countryside Tours that offers custom designed tours for people and groups and then plays the part of personal tour guide. Although she has just started in March, she believes that people will really enjoy the services she offers because, “... this is a wonderful area to take tours in!” She would like to express her deep thanks for the support of the community and her family.
