Sixth Annual Mayfest Road And Trail Run
On Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 8:00 am, Shipshewana
will host the sixth annual Mayfest Road & Trail 4 mile
run as part of if its annual Mayfest celebration. A 1-mile
non-competitive walk and a 1-mile fun-run for kids ages
13 and under will also be held in conjunction with the
road and trail race. Participants of all ages are welcome.
This year, there will be a chip timing system for
the first time since the race started. This will help
to improve the overall race day experience in many
aspects including timing accuracy and timeliness of
posting results.
Cost is $20 day of race or $17 pre-race registration
for the 4-mile run and $10 day of race or pre-race for
the 1-mile walk and 1-mile kid’s fun run.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Bret and
Vickie Smith Family of Howe, Indiana. Bret and Vickie
have three daughters: Chyanna, age 14, and twins
Arianna and Kiara, age 11.
In August 2010, Chyanna was diagnosed with
t-cell non-hodgkins lymphoma. She is an eighth
grader at Lakeland Middle School and is currently
homeschooling, hoping to return to Lakeland next
year. Her hobbies include reading, music, softball and
soccer. Chyanna enjoys spending lots of time with her
friends!
In February 2011, Arianna was diagnosed with b-cell
non-hodgkins lymphoma. She is currently in 5th grade
at Lima-Brighton Elementary School. Her favorite
activities include reading, crafts, and basketball. She
is also currently involved in piano, Geography Club,
FAN Club, and Math Pentathalon.
Chyanna and Arianna are currently undergoing
chemo treatments. The family asks that everyone keep
them in your prayers. Chyanna's blog can be read at
