fouls during overtime. Many witnesses point to the
officiating as a key reason for the Warriors loss. “I’ve
never complained about officials, but these 17-year-old
kids are evaluated all the time on their play and it’s
only fair they can get evaluated occasionally, too. And
to me, it’s a crying shame that 40- and 50-year-old men
can take a game away from 17-and 18-year old kids,”
said coach Yoder.
Now the next step for the Warriors is how they will
react going forward with the loss. Will they feel sorry
for themselves or will they step up and use it as fuel for
sectionals? Senior Seth Wagler has the answer to that
dilemma. “I think we’re mature enough as a team to
know that all we have to do after the loss is take what
we can get better on. We know the most important
game is the first game in sectionals and that is what
we’re working towards right now.”
Wagler also knows that the perfect season was
coveted by the whole team, but they can’t let that affect
the rest of the season. “It meant a lot to us (the perfect
season) since we had a chance to do something really
special, but now we’re using it as motivation because
no one on the team wants to feel that feeling again
of losing.”

Warrior Boys Basketball
Recently the Westview Warriors
boys basketball team experienced
something they hadn’t felt since the
Fairfield game in the 2010 sectionals: a
loss. The Warriors suffered their first
defeat this season at Wawasee on Friday, February 18th.
It was a nail biter and even went into overtime. However,
the Warriors from Syracuse came out on top 61-54.
Westview had a chance to put the game away as
junior guard Brant Yoder was fouled on a put back
after his offensive rebound. With less than a second
remaining he went to the foul line with Westview
trailing by one, 48-49. He converted his first free throw
but couldn’t win the game as he missed the second.
However, Yoder is not to be blamed for the loss. “Free
throw shooting was not real strong for us, and it doesn’t
come down to Brant. We started the game missing
free throws. Everybody understands that. There’s lots
of small areas,” said Westview head coach Rob Yoder.
During the overtime period Westview was limited
by foul trouble. Leading scorer, Justin Jantzi, fouled
out with seventeen points. Seth Wagler also had to
play carefully as he remained in the game with four
