Westview Girl Champions Girls Track Named NECC Champions The Westview Girls Track team captured its third straight Northeast Corner Conference championship in May with an impressive display of talent on the Churubusco track. Skyler Carpenter was especially impressive as she contributed four first place finishes. In the process, Carpenter set three records. Skyler broke her own meet record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 seconds, .42 seconds faster than her record-setting time last year. Her second record was garnered in the 300 meter hurdles race as she finished with a time of 43.26 seconds, eclipsing her previous meet record of 43.37 seconds. Her final record setting performance came in the 200 meter dash finishing with a sparkling time of 24.96 seconds, breaking her former record of 25.27, set last year. Skyler also finished first in long jump with a leap of 17 feet 2¾ inches. Westview star trackster, Mandy Jones, who will be heading to Indiana State to run track for the Sycamores next year, finished second in the 100 meter dash, but in the process reinjured her hamstring ending her high school track career. Jeslyn Zimmerly finished with a blue ribbon and tied her own conference record, set last year in the pole vault event, with a vault of 12 feet even. Photo by Brenda Carpenter Girls Tennis Captures East Noble Sectional Title The Westview girls tennis team captured the 2012 East Noble sectional championship by defeating West Noble on Saturday, May 19. The girls advanced to the championship with a semi-final win over host East Noble on Thursday to gain a berth in championship. Stephanie Hostetler, at number one singles defeated Brooke Moser of West Noble in three sets, and both doubles teams, Brooke Miller and Rebecca Lawhorn, at number one doubles and Mirandi Miller and Chandra Strong at number two doubles defeated their opponents to lead their team to a spot in the Northridge regional.
