Westview Softball
The Westview softball team has had major struggles
this year. The softball program is going to be looking
to bounce back next season. The team has had its
problems this year but there are bright spots for next
season.
The main downfall of the team this year has been
the pitching. “At the beginning of the season we really
only had one pitcher, Sam Pfenning. We started working
with our catcher, Brooke Yoder, and she’s really stepped
up to help, but we’re still lacking enough pitchers for
a good rotation,” said senior Rebecca Miller.
The team has had its troubles this season but there
hasn’t been much pessimism surrounding them. “[The
coaches] have been encouraging all year. There has
been very little negativity. I think that has helped a lot
with the team’s attitude,” said Miller.
This great attitude has improved the defensive

Warrior Girls Track
The Warrior girls track team has once again turned
in another stellar season led by the seniors and juniors.
With regional action Tuesday, May 24th, they have one
last chance to break even more records.
“Our distance runners have helped. They have
stepped up way more than in the past,” said junior Kassy
Zimmerman. That is just one facet of the team that has
helped the Warrior girls push towards a great season.
The Warriors have also done very well in the sprints,
hurdles, and pole vaulting. According to Zimmerman,
Westview has “pretty much dominated” these events.
This is true. Junior Skyler Carpenter has broken several
school records this year in her hurdling, sprints, and
long jump events.
The junior class has really stepped up this year. It
has mainly been Mandy Jones, Jeslyn Zimmerly, Kassy
Zimmerman, and Skyler Carpenter. They combined
to make a tremendous four by one team that tied the
school record this year at 49.5 seconds at the NECC
meet.
This season had one minor hitch however. Injuries
depleted the roster and led to a disappointing finish
at sectionals. This small hitch isn’t enough to bring
down the entire season though. It is just to show that
the team isn’t actually made up of bionic robots.
The coaching has also been a big help according to
several members of the team. “Matt Jones has worked
very well this season… Coach Cook has also been
great. We all have a personal connection with Cook.
He pushes us to the best of our abilities.”
Next season is shaping up to the best that the team
has had in a few years. With the junior class becoming
team leaders, the sky is the limit. However, Zimmerman
is going to make sure that the season isn’t all about
them. “I’m just going to make sure the underclassmen
feel welcomed and confident. I want to make sure they
feel like a big part of the team.”

Westview Boys Track
The boys track team is close to
finishing up their season. All that
is left is regional competition on
Thursday, May 26th. The boys have had
a somewhat disappointing season. However, it is not
because of attitude or lack of trying.
