with aspirations to continue her track career and
study Neonatology, a pediatric specialty field dealing
with infants that are ill or born prematurely, a subject
very close to the Carpenter family’s heart, as they’ve
experienced tragedies in their life in that department.
When asked about Olympic aspirations, once again
Skyler emphasized the importance of the classroom
first, but if the opportunity arises, certainly she will
seize the opportunity for a chance to compete on a
worldwide venue.
Overall, the Westview Girls track team finished
2011 with a 13-1-1 record in dual meets. The only loss
came to a very talented Northridge team and
the tie came against another tough Northern
Lakes Conference school, Concord. For the first
time ever, the Westview girls won the Northeast
Corner Conference championship with a perfect
10-0 record. They also tied for first with Fairfield
in the NECC tournament. Individually, many
outstanding performances were overshadowed
by Carpenter, but were extremely important
to the team’s success as a whole. According to

coach Cook, Mandy Jones finished a great junior year,
with not only a second place finish in the long jump at
state, but she also set the Sectional record in the 100
meter dash. Jones, along with Carpenter, Zimmerly and
senior Sandra Bellaire earned All-Conference team
honors. Bellaire, one of two seniors on coach Cook’s
team this year, qualified for Regional participation in
the 300 meter hurdles and also in high jump. She finished first in the sectional in high jump and ran at the
state tournament in the 4x100 relay with teammates,
Shannon Thornburg, Jones and Kassy Zimmerman.
Also, graduating this year was distant specialist, Erin
