fully this new offensive style will lead to more victories. With Carpenter and Zimmerly being the only seniors, they have a lot on their shoulders. They are making sure they are setting an example for their younger teammates to follow. “On the court, we are trying to lead them in scoring. Off the court, we are patient and try working with them. Everyone is trying really hard, so you can’t get mad.” The team’s upcoming schedule has the Lady Warriors playing Angola, Fremont, and Lakeland. This is an easier part of the schedule that they can pick up wins if they play well. “I expect us to start winning more games in the second half of the season. I also expect us to put two solid halves together,” said Carpenter. Hopefully the girls squad will keep continuing their winning ways and become a contender when sectional time rolls around. Senior Spotlight Adrian Brandenberger If you follow Westview athletics, you are probably familiar with the name Adrian Brandenberger. He has been a part of the Westview soccer and basketball teams for his entire four years in high school. He’ll also be on the baseball team for his fourth year this spring. Brandenberger has been a part of sectional championship teams in every sport he has participated in. As much as sports have been a part of Brandenberger’s life over the past four years, there is a lot more to the kid. Brandenberger is the guy in high school that you can hear in the hallway from a mile away. When you hear him, he is probably telling a funny story from one of his many crazy adventures with his friends. Either that, or he is telling someone about the forty point The Hometown Treasure · Jan. ‘12 · pg 5 buck he just killed with his compound bow. Brandenberger is known by his friends and even acquaintances as the “hunting guy.” If you have ever spent time with Brandenberger, you would see that his personality is one that is hard to match. Yes, you can tell that he is a typical guy from around this area. He enjoys going fishing, hunting, and four wheeling. He also loves listening to his favorite country music artists such as Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Luke Bryan and Eric Church. He even has a secret aspiration to meet Carrie Underwood. However, Adrian is one of those rare student-athletes that has a truly gravitating personality that makes everyone want to be his best friend. Playing basketball is a commitment at Westview. It takes a special person to endure the pressure and demand that putting on a Warrior jersey possesses. “The support from my family and the fans is what has made me stick with basketball this long,” said Brandenberger. “The high intensity of the fans makes it all worthwhile.” During his time in high school, he points to one thing that he has enjoyed most while playing sports. “The build up and preparation before big games is what I really like. And of course the rewards after you win.” There is one catch to playing high school sports; you are a student athlete. This is one aspect of high school Brandenberger and most other students do not like. “I don’t like to do any work in class ... like at all,” he said. Still he has performed well enough during high school that he’ll be attending college next fall. He is planning on attending IPFW University to major in either business management or something in the agricultural field. In ten years he sees himself buying a house and getting married. “I don’t know if I want kids or not, at least not right now,” said Brandenberger, “but I want a super hot wife.” Brandenberger’s time at Westview has only got about one semester left.
