Spotlight on by David Lane Advanced Indiana Master Naturalist Nature Definitely A Positive Foundation O ne early morning, nearly at the beginning of winter, as I sometimes do, I took a walk in the woods and I discovered a nest up in a tree, that was left over from the past early summer. I had walked by this particular spot in the woods many times before on my walks and I had noticed a cluster of leaves surrounded by trees. It was sort of hidden. Due to the change of seasons, the leaves had fallen away and this particular nest was revealed. As I thought about this for awhile, through all these months, through all the weather that we had experienced with winds and storms…the nest remained. It had a way of being nestled there in the right spot. The support of the trees and branches had assured its survival. The nest was protected, shielded, guarded in a safe place. This particular nest really got me to think twice and to really figure out this simple occurrence. That what is important, is how and where we find our support. Much like those trees and branches that all came together to hold that nest up and to offer protection… so is He (God) our support. Like the song says… He Is The Shelter In The Time of Storm. He is our support, our strength, our refuge. He upholds us. He is our place of safety. God’s word spells it out for us in Psalms 18:1-2 I love you, Lord my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. This reminds me of how important it is to have a strong foundation. Much like this perfect spot to build a nest, like a home… so He is our foundation. He is our sure foundation. Definitely A Positive Foundation. With God as the foundation of who I am, when circumstances of life weigh on us and when fear begins to creep up, there is no doubt that we can withstand it all. We can withstand the hard, harsh winds and storms, just as this fragile little nest had withstood. Keep in mind, God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. It is how we handle the situation and our attitude toward the situation. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; fear the Lord is the key to his treasure. Isaiah 33:6. The new year is just beginning. I look forward with great anticipation, because I know where my foundation is built. He is my sure foundation. Most of my life is built on Him and with that proper foundation, I ??????????????)???????????!?????????????????5?)??????????????????!?????????)??????????????????????????????????????????????!????????)??????????????????????????)??????????)]????????????????????????)?????????)M???????????????????????????)9?????????????????????????????)????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????)??????????????????????????????)??????????5???????????????????)????????????????????()5IQ%8?a YQ%9??%9 )???M??????????A???()??????????M?????) ?????????????() I==,?5IQ%8)A??????(????8?????\)1???????%8??????((???????????(????????????()????????I?????)1???????????)?????()M?????????!??????(?????????????????(????\??????8?)M??????????%8??????()!??????5??????????????????)Q???!??????Q?????? ???????`?? ?????((0
