Sports Scoop ... cont. from previous
and they might have three who could
potentially do it. Senior Austin Lewton
and juniors Brian Mullett and Tony
Steglich all feel as if they could go the
distance.
“We want to finish with a handful of people placing at conference and
sectionals and moving onto regional’s
at Goshen,” said Steglich.
Last season Lewton and Mullett
moved on to semi-state at the Fort
Wayne Memorial Coliseum. Lack of
work won’t be the reason that they
don’t go back if they lose. “We’ve fought
hard all season long and at Kokomo we
had a good record there. We went 4-1
at our super duals and we had a bunch
of close duals with other conference
teams,” said Steglich.
Mullett and Steglich give all the
credit for their team’s motivation to
Head Coach Pippenger and Lewton.
“Lewton leads by example and he
kicks butt, his success gives the other
wrestlers something to work towards.
Pippenger always kept us in shape
and hungry for success,” said Steglich.
“He is a great captain,” said Mullett.
“He leads by example and keeps us
motivated to continue working hard.
Pippenger is a good coach because
he makes us work hard everyday and
makes sure we’re ready to win.”

been the only ones to make waves this
season. Mike Yankowsky and Trey
Kennedy have had outstanding years.
The fact that they’re both sophomores
gives hope for the Westview wrestling
future. “Trey did a great job wrestling
at the 145 pound class and only weighing around 135. Mike did a really good
job for being a sophomore and ending
with a good record and placing well
at some tournaments,” said Steglich.
Mullett also pointed out Yankowsky
and Kennedy for being the best young
wrestlers. Another wrestler that made
his mark on the season was Greg
Warren. Warren is a junior and had
struggled through his first two years in
high school. This year he improved a lot
and even won first place at the Kokomo
