Topeka Town News Spring is approaching, the yards are turning green and the trees are blossoming and people are starting to clean up after the winter wind and snow. Residents are reminded to put any limbs or brush on a pile (no leaves or grass) along the curb and employees will be around to pick them up. Also, limbs, leaves and grass may be taken to the mulch recycling center behind the town street garage located on the west side of town. Please no trash! The town has received bids for the South Main Street project and we hope to award the contract at the first meeting this month. That will include, paving, storm water and possible side walk approaches to meet ADA (American Disability Act) standard. The work should start right away. So, look for possible delays and road closures as construction moves along. With local kids enjoying their spring break this week, keep a close eye out for them, as they will be out playing in the yards, parks and riding their bikes down the by Ron Eash streets. Keep the kids safe. An early reminder that town-wide cleanup , for town residents in city limits only, will be May 18-19. Look for more next month on items that can be dropped off during cleanup. And as a final thought, “As we move through life, success is a piece of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” Westview Elementary Riley Hospital Can Drive This year’s can drive will start on Monday, April 9 and continue until Monday, April 16. Westview Elementary would like to challenge the community to get involved by either donating aluminum cans and/or matching the funds that will be sent to Riley. If anyone has questions, would like to donate, or has cans that need to be picked up, you may contact any fifth or sixth grade student or staff member of Westview Elementary School. You may also contact the school by calling 260-768-7717. Westview Elementary appreciates your help and consideration in furthering the success and growth of this community project.
