Edited Extracts from Presidents ' Reviews 2013-2023
“ You have seen changes and plans for a future with a stronger SRP , providing more for our members , the public , employers and IRPA . We recognise that this cannot be achieved without the many members who volunteer to contribute their own time for the benefit of the Society . More opportunities are emerging for members to get involved with SRP . I hope you will be inspired to join in , just as your current and past colleagues have done for the last 50 years .”
Peter Marsden , President 2013 / 15
“ We have grown and changed significantly in the last ten years and have an increasing reputation nationally and internationally . Our second ' Committee Engagement Day ' ( November 2016 ) was a key event for the future development of SRP . It set out structural changes involving the creation of four delivery arms ( Directorates ): Professional Standards , Science and Technology , Engagement and Operations . These will each be headed by a Director who will also be a Trustee . We aim to ensure that we have the right structure in place to meet our goals .”
Pete Cole , President 2015 / 17
“ The Radiation Protection Council is now fully established . This is the body which has delegated authority under our Charter to act as a registration authority for professional standards . I am also particularly proud that SRP has taken a huge leap forward in promoting itself to the UK government . January 2018 saw us hold our first parliamentary event , hosted by our Patron The Lord Carlile of Berriew CBE QC .”
Amber Bannon , President 2017 / 19
“ Sustainability of the profession includes a number of strands , such as supporting the continued development and growth of our young professionals , through a continued commitment to outreach and the good work of our Rising Generations Group . It is also equally applicable to the more experienced members of SRP and I will be actively encouraging an ' inclusive ' culture to ensure that we are representing all of those working in radiation protection and its allied fields , regardless of age , gender or sector .”
Pete Bryant , President 2019 / 21
“ Throughout my Presidency , I committed to continuing with the initiatives started by my predecessor namely sustainability of the profession and society ; working in synergy with other organisations , and improving communication with internal and external stakeholders . These became the key objectives set out in the new five-year Strategic Plan for the Society . Diversity and inclusion will also be key themes over the next five years and beyond , and we must continue to strive to ensure that SRP reflects the diversity of the whole RP workforce .”
Jim Thurston , President 2021 / 23
