It was a thrilling and exciting event! The spellers ranged from 4th to 8th grade. Each grade took a spelling test and the top 3 spellers from these grades participated in the Spelling Bee. In early December, the GHS Hawks proudly brought home the consolation victory at the year-end league basketball playoffs! Our 6th and 7thgrade boys’ basketball team, the JV team, defeated Mountain Creek with a score of 45-40. They were in the consolation round of the playoffs based on regular season rankings. The team’s 2-0 record in the playoffs showed teamwork and determination. It was a snowy, gloomy drive up into the mountains. The team was down 10-17. Spencer S., a player on the Hawks, described the game. “It was a thrilling, fast paced game. The game was neck and neck until the second half. We played a zone defense, as usual. But we did one thing different. Walter G., guarded the Mountain Creek’s best player man to man. This was why we won the game,” Spencer explained. Some of the highlights of the game were Joseph C. having many rebounds and Austin S. having lots of key shots. Donnie G. and Christian P. had a thrilling shooting game. The whole team did amazing! continued on page 2 Representing 4th grade was Aryan S., Ava E. and Jace K. In 5th grade there was Jessica R., Cole S. and Amjot N. In 6th grade there was Leland M., Amanda S., and Brienne W. In 7th grade there was Anisha R., Yashmita M. and Sahej N. The oldest representatives in 8th grade were Matthew M., Jessica O. and Connor L. Mrs. Mirhaj was the pronouncer, and Mr. K and Mrs. Pascoe were the judges. Every speller did great!
