2024 . They ’ re especially thankful for the progress being made as discussed during their Nov . 21 meeting at town hall .
A central point of discussion centered on obtaining updates on significant roadway and water projects . The impending holiday season adds complexity to meeting deadlines and communicating plans . Mayor Stephen DiDonato and the PWTC engaged in discussions about contingency options as they navigate through the projects slated for 2024 in the Public Works domain .
Luckily , one program that ’ s been making huge progress this year is the 2023 road restoration initiative . The road restoration updates fell on what would be done with Myrtle Street and Route 206 .
In the October meeting , Business Administrator Frank Zuber outlined a plan for narrowing Myrtle Street and Route 206 . Public Works Manager Scott Rivera added insights for the road .
“ Where we ’ ve been , there was going to be pulverizing there , a lot of patching stuff like that , and then pave it with two and a half inches of material , just for the widths that are there ,” Rivera said . “ We ’ re narrowing the width down , we ’ re going to go from Route 206 to Pine Road and put 100 feet towards the TerraForm . Just establish that intersection .”
As for Route 54 , Zuber discussed the next steps in the process of rehabilitating the highway . He mentioned the need
for New Jersey Pinelands Commission approval and the upcoming meeting with the Department of Environmental Protection ( DEP ) to discuss the final construction approach .
“ So [ with ] Pinelands approval , DEP where we had that package to them , we ’ re having a meeting with them next week to discuss the final construction approach . I spoke to them , one guy didn ’ t seem too thrilled with the idea , but we ’ re gonna talk about it more ,” Zuber said .
One of the downsides to the construction approach the PWTC has to figure out is that they ’ re cutting in many services they had to get a cut in , financially . There may be the entire shoulder of the road that needs to be redone , so it ’ s a big project they ’ ll be working on throughout the holiday .
PWTC also provided updates on construction progress related to Boyer Avenue , Old Forks Road and 11th Street . While awaiting approval to proceed , these roads remain integral parts of the committee ’ s agenda .
The PWTC shifted focus from the road restoration to discussion of a utility agreement with the
New Jersey Department of Transportation ( NJDOT ).
The PWTC discussed how a resolution for a few big projects under this utility agreement , including reconfiguring a few major roads in the area .
“ Remember everyone we did one last month for pushing for Route 30 ? There ’ s another section of Route 30 that actually just got bid last week that we had to do an agreement for that ,” Rivera said . “ It goes to Weymouth Road to Pleasant Mills Road , so there ’ s gonna be another resolution coming up for the utility agreement .”
The PWTC ’ s proactive approach working up against the holiday season and close deadlines reflects a commitment to bettering Hammonton with things community members will see through the rest of 2023 and early 2024 .
The next PWTC meeting will be on Dec . 21 at 2:30 p . m . at the third-floor conference room in town hall .
