Edward J. Greene
edward J. Greene Sr, 88, formerly of Glen avenue, amsterdam, N.Y.;
and more recently of Van allen Senior apartments, Glenmont, N.Y.; died
on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 27, 1931, he was the
son of the late Joseph M. and Nora (flaherty) Greene. He received his
education in the Boston school system, his B.S. from Massachusetts State
teacher’s College, and his M.S. degree from the State University of New
York at albany. He was employed as a special education teacher for 30
years in the Greater amsterdam School District.
ed was an honorably discharged United States army veteran of the
Korean Conflict, serving with the 2nd infantry from 1952 to 1954. He
was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in amsterdam until moving to Glenmont. ed was
also an early member of the MCt federal Credit Union and, ultimately, became a member
of its Board of Directors and served as its president for many years. He was a past president
of the amsterdam federation of teachers and the amsterdam teachers association. He also
served on the Board of Directors of the New York State United teachers (“NYSUt”), a fed-
eration of local unions which, during his term on the Board, grew to represent more than
350,000 members throughout New York State. in response to ed’s decision not to stand for
reelection for NYSUt’s Board in 1988, after his retirement from teaching, NYSUt President
thomas Hobart Jr. noted, “You have been a substantial stabilizing influence for the organ-
ization and for my administration from the earliest days. the strong local that you built, the
community relationships you have fostered, and the confidence among leaders you have
developed with your reserved and soft demeanor, have made you a giant in the development
of our organization.” ed’s early involvement in these organizations, and his long-term com-
mitment to these democratic, member-governed organizations, reflected his commitment to
the american labor movement. a lover of words, he enjoyed many a great book and the NY
Times crossword puzzle. He was a world traveler, a great historian and an amazing story
teller.
He was married to Katherine e. MacMaster Greene on august 12, 1961. Katherine died
on January 27, 2001. in addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his sisters,
Margaret Sayers and Helen McDermott. ed is survived by his children, Joseph (Jaquelyn)
Greene ii, edward (Laura) Greene, Jr., Maura (Greg) Psoinos, Kathy (Greg) Baumgras and
Jessica (James) Curcio; his sister, Mary-ann Greene; his grandchildren, eddie and Georgia
Greene, Meghan and Katie Greene, Katherine and Nicholas Psoinos, andrew (Victoria),
erin and Patrick Baumgras, and John, timothy, Daniel and Neil Curcio, as well as several
nieces and nephews. ed was a devoted husband to Kay, and a loving father and grandfather.
funeral services were held Saturday morning, November 23, 2019 at the riley Mortuary,
inc., amsterdam, N.Y., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated at St. Mary’s
Church, amsterdam, N.Y., with rev. Jeffrey L’arche, M.S., officiating. Calling hours were
held friday, November 22, 2019 at the riley Mortuary, inc., amsterdam, N.Y. interment
followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, fort Johnson, N.Y. Memorial contributions in ed’s name
may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Leonides Acevedo
Leonides acevedo, 83, of Hammonton, died on friday, November 22, 2019 at atlantiCare
regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus.
Born in Maunabo, Puerto rico, Leonides was a long time area resident. She worked as
a sewing machine operator for W.B. Kessler Clothing Company in Hammonton for many
years.
Surviving are two brothers, anastacio (Sandra) acevedo and enrique (Monica) acevedo;
three sisters, Juanita, Dominga and Marta (all acevedo) and many nieces and nephews.

Susan L. Passamante
Susan L. Passamante (nee Deltrone), 74, of Collings Lakes died peace-
fully at home on friday, November 22, 2019.
Born in egg Harbor City, she was a longtime resident there before
moving to Collings Lakes in 1978. Sue had worked at the fountains at
Cedar Parke in atco, Julie’s Carousel of Beauty in Hammonton and many
years ago at Babe’s Beauty Salon in Ventnor.
She is predeceased by her husband, Michael W. Passamante; step son,
Michael W. Passamante Jr. and two sisters, Lois DeNardo and elizabeth
Deltrone. Surviving are her daughter, Gina ford (Jim); son, Brian Pas-
samante; brother, frank “Bucky” Deltrone; two sisters, Mary Ciocca and
Margaret fortis; her four grandchildren, Jacqueline, Brianna (richard) ,
Gabriella and Brian and many nieces and nephews.

man on fire in March, atlantic

the release said Brandon Perez,
23, of Hammonton and David Sult,
24, of Mays Landing, both pleaded
guilty to second degree aggravated
assault in exchange for five years
New Jersey State Prison subject to

and three years parole supervision
upon release).
On the evening of March 15,
2019, Brandon Perez and David
Sult were at Sult’s residence in
Mays Landing hanging out with a
group of other men, the release
said. raymond Mullen was asleep
on a couch when Perez and Sult de-
cided to play a “prank” on him, ac-
cording to the release. Perez
sprayed lighter fluid on the back of
raymond’s clothing and Perez ig-
nited it, the release said. raymond
suffered severe burns to his back,
according to the release. the men
claimed raymond had been burned
accidentally by an electronic smok-
ing device but the investigation re-
vealed the fire had been set
intentionally, the release said.

Helen A. Mortelliti
Helen a. Mortelliti (nee Silipena), 91, of Hammonton died on Sunday,
November 24, 2019 at the Masonic rehabilitation Village in elizabeth-
town, Pa.
Born in Hammonton, she was a lifelong resident. She was a member
of the Hammonton Senior Citizens.
She is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, anthony P. Mortelliti;
her sisters, Jean e. Grasso, Pauline Goekeler, Bertha Barressi; her brother,
John Silipena; her sisters-in-law, angelina rebardo, frances Kovshuk,
anna terruso, theresa Nemec and her brother-in-law, Henry Mortelliti.
Surviving are her son, John H. Mortelliti and his wife Lisa of Hummel-
stown, Pa.; two sisters, Catherine Cristeno of audubon and Dorothy Cas-
setta and her husband fred of Hammonton; two brothers, Harry Silipena of florida and
arthur Silipena and his wife Grace of Hammonton; her sisters-in-law, Marie Mortelliti of
Hammonton, Grace Houser of Penns Grove and Louise DeCamp of Devonshire; three
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

patrolling the area when he ob-
served a vehicle parked improp-
erly. as he observed the vehicle,
he saw a man in the vehicle sitting
in the driver’s seat with the vehicle
running. Speaking with the driver,
he could detect the strong odor of
an alcoholic beverage emanating
from his person,” friel said.
the driver identified himself as
Bryan Grimaldo-robledo, who is
22 years old and a resident of
Hammonton, friel said.
friel said Grimaldo-robledo
stated that “he doesn’t drink”
when asked if he had consumed
too many alcoholic beverages by
the officer, friel said.
Grimaldo-robledo was ar-
rested, processed and charged with
the DWi, improper parking, open
container of alcohol in a motor ve-
hicle, consumption of an alcoholic
beverage in a motor vehicle, driv-
ing with an expired license and
reckless driving, friel said.
ambrozaitis was the arresting
officer, friel said.
also, a man who was involved
with a hit-and-run accident was
later located and arrested by Ham-
monton Police at 5:51 p.m. on No-
vember 24 on the 700 block of N.
egg Harbor road, according to
friel.
“it was reported that a hit and
run occurred and the vehicle left
the scene for Winslow twp. a sin-
gle vehicle was traveling west on
N. egg Harbor road. the vehicle,
as it approached 15th Street struck
several signs and continued into
Winslow twp.,” friel said.
a short time later, the vehicle
was found by Hammonton Police
in the driveway of a residence in
the 700 block of egg Harbor road
in Winslow twp.
the driver was identified as
Salvador Bernal-Vasquez, 41, of
Hammonton, friel said. He was
placed under arrest, processed and
