Tuesday, October 17, 2:15 p.m. Courtesy Photo DeCicco presenting at Nov. 14 Hammonton Lake Water Quality Committee meeting the Hammonton Lake Water Quality Committee has an- nounced that its November 14 meeting will feature a presenta- tion by Hammonton Utility De- partment Superintendent anthony DeCicco regarding the results of this past summer’s round of water testing at Hammonton Lake. it will also serve as a public hearing on the draft Hammonton Lake Management Plan, which the committee has been revising for the past few months. the town has hired a summer intern for the past four years to take water samples at various lo- cations around Hammonton Lake. the testing protocol, developed by DeCicco in collaboration with the committee, addresses levels of oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorous and fecal bacteria in the water, as well as temperature and pH levels. Of most importance to the com- mittee has been the level of fecal bacteria. “the bacteria count is not our only focus, of course, but it is our main concern. if we are ever to be able to re-open the Lake to swim- ming, and we continue to get a steady stream of requests, then we need to be sure we can keep the count low enough to pass the stringent County Department of Health testing. We’re carrying on this extended program of in-house testing to lay the groundwork for any needed remediation efforts, as well as ongoing monitoring,” committee chairman Dan Bachalis said. the seasonal testing program, which ended late august, uses college and graduating high school seniors to take samples from about six locations of the lake, including the beach area, lake tributaries and downstream locations such as near the route 30 spillway. the Lake Management Plan was first developed in 1995. this Alleged shooting investigated by Gabe Donio G azette S taff W riter HaMMONtON—Police are investigating a report of an alleged shooting that was reported at 10:50 p.m. on October 27, Ham- monton Police Lt. Peter Hagerty is the investigating detective, friel said. Inferrera’s Market EVERYBODY’S STORE. 436 N. 3RD STREET - HAMMONTON 561-1061 SPECIALS FOR THE WEEK. . . .pg11 11 THE WEEK... Committee members have updated and added recom- mendations regarding best prac- tices to ensure the lake’ waters remain healthy enough to support its abundant wildlife, as well as remain attractive for use by area residents. to date, the committee has taken input from several area res- idents as well as the Department of environmental Protection’s fish and Wildlife scientists. “We hope everyone who is in- terested in the future of Hammon- ton Lake comes out on November 14 and gives us the benefit of their ideas. this meeting will be pivotal in developing and finalizing the plan before we submit it to the mayor and town council for ap- proval in December. We want to hit the ground running with our updated program of maintenance and improvements early in the new year. and anthony DeCi- cco’s presentation will definitely enlighten everyone about how the lake is currently doing,” Bachalis said.
