Stockton ’ s Kramer Hall hosts 150 Years of Agriculture exhibition

KRAMER , from Page 1 The exhibition features artifacts ,
paintings , photographs and more that chronicle the history of agriculture in southern New Jersey , but mainly in Hammonton . Various pieces of vintage farm equipment from farms owned by local families like the Gallettas , DiMeos , Donios , DeMarcos ,
Prestis and Wuillermins are among those featured .
Artists whose work is featured in the exhibition include : Jeanette DePiero , Johnathon Franks , Cheryl Knowles-Harrigan , Chuck Law , George Mattei , Abby Elizabeth Schmidt , Liz Wuillermin and Michael Zambelli . While many of these families ’ businesses began more than a

century ago , the lasting effect their farms had on the community is indisputable . Many of these families ’ farms are still thriving generations later .
“ A lot of these people came over from Italy around the late 1800searly 1900s and then they started as laborers in the fields . They saved up money and small parcels of land were available for a price , so they could get started farming and then build on that . Some of these farmers built it up to the point where they have thousands of acres now ... They have a huge amount of property and they ’ re still growing blueberries today ,” Director of Education for Stockton ’ s Noyes Museum of Art Saskia Schmidt said .
The 150 Years of Agriculture exhibition was originally intended to be part of a year-long industry exhibition to celebrate the sesquicentennial . Staff from Kramer Hall and the Noyes Museum , as well as South Jersey Culture and History Center President Tom Kinsella and Vice President Paul Schopp began meeting one year before the sesquicentennial and have met once a month since .
Because Hammonton ’ s industries and farms were so important on their own , the parties decided to divide the industry exhibition into two : one exhibition
